To carry out effective strategic medical staff development planning, hospitals and medical staffs should use the “Seven Rs.” They are:
- Right number of physicians
- Right type of physicians
- Right quality of physicians
- Right relationship to the hospital
- Organized medical staff strategies
- Alignment strategies by specialty
- Recruitment and retention strategies
- Competition and collaboration strategies
- Right culture
- Right medical staff structure and processes
- Right leadership
What to look for under each of the Seven Rs will be discussed in future issues of Medical Staff Leader Connection.
This week’s tip is from The Greeley Guide to New Medical Staff Models: Solutions for Changing Physician-Hospital Relations by Richard A. Sheff, MD; and William K. Cors, MD, MMM, FACPE.
