How happy are hospitalists with their jobs?
Hospitalist Leadership Connection, July 27, 2011
The number of hospitalists in the US is growing, but are they really satisfied with their jobs? The answer is yes, according to a new study published in the Journal of General Internal Medicine.
Researchers at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine surveyed 816 hospitalists, and 62.6% reported high satisfaction with their job and 69% with their specialty. Respondents said the aspects of their jobs they were most satisfied with are quality of care given and relationships with colleagues. Respondents rated factors such as organizational climate, autonomy, compensation, and availability of personal time as least satisfying. Additionally, 29% of respondents reported burnout symptoms.
