Hospital administrators, medical staff leaders and patients are three key ingredients to improving quality in hospitals.Five U.S. hospitals were recognized earlier this month for their leadership and innovation in quality improvement and safety based on criteria that weighed how well those three entities work together to enhance quality. The 2011 American Hospital Association-McKesson Quest for Quality Prize® also looks at the hospital’s demonstration of an organizational commitment to and progress in achieving the IOM's six quality aims. The AHA hopes that the models these hospitals implement can be replicated in other facilities around the country.
