The Association of American Physicians and Surgeons questions the benefits of maintenance of certification (MOC), the process physicians must go through to continuously maintain their board certification status. Although boards have been responding to the public’s cry for physicians to be retested and recertified, for many physicians, MOC is a cumbersome, bureaucratic, and expensive process that is of little value to patients.
