Hospitalist blamed for patient death
Hospitalist Leadership Connection, June 8, 2011
Abraham Awwad, MD, a nephrologist at Northside Hospital in St. Petersburg, FL, has filed a formal complaint against Joseph Zalocha, MD, a hospitalist who practices at Northside after a patient died in Zalocha’s care. The morning after the patient was admitted, Zalocha documented in a report that an MRI would be conducted, but it never was. Awwad had ordered Zalocha to consult with additional specialists, but Zalocha did not consult with those specialists until it was too late, according to the Tampa Bay Times. Awwad has filed several complaints against Northside providers for not following his orders.
