Hospitalist Leadership Connection, March 1, 2011

Consider using the sample language below in policies regarding hospitalist performance evaluation.

Each hospitalist will be evaluated at three months post-hire, at one year post-hire, and annually thereafter unless otherwise specified. The evaluation will cover (but is not limited to) the provider’s:

  • Clinical performance
  • Teamwork
  • Appropriate communication to patients, colleagues, and managers
  • Timely submission of patient billing information
  • Physician satisfaction survey
  • Coding and revenue reviews
  • Adherence to the policy/procedure manual
  • Adherence to medical staff requirements
  • Attendance at required meetings

In addition, the evaluation will include input from the clinical director and administrative doctor at [hospital name]. All contract negotiations will be coordinated through the chief executive officer and administrative director at [hospital name].

All admissions will take place at [hospital name] unless the service cannot be provided at this institution.
