Create a newsletter for medical community users
Hospitalist Leadership Connection, November 30, 2010
Because physicians are charged with communicating with parties outside the hospital walls, consider creating a semiannual newsletter for primary care physicians in the community who refer to the hospitalist program. It can be a useful for hospitalist practices in apprising interested parties of hospitalist program-related news. Consider the following elements that may change after a hospitalist service is launched—and that could be candidates for newsletter material:
- Changes in policy
- Changes in procedure (e.g., new communication protocols, delivery of admission history and physical or discharge summary, acceptable methods for contacting the hospitalist providers)
- New service offerings
- New hospitalist providers
- Performance milestones or achievements (e.g., number of patients cared for, quality performance marks)
The above except is adapted from Hospitalist Case Studies: Tactics and Strategies for 10 Common Hurdles, published by HCPro, Inc.
