If your medical staff is struggling with the decision whether to use its own legal counsel or the hospital’s legal counsel, arrange for a discussion between your medical staff leaders and their counterparts at area hospitals. This can help your medical staff see how the different options are working in the field. Keep in mind that every medical staff has unique needs and may want to follow a different path from the medical staff across town. In addition, if your chosen lawyer isn’t meeting your needs, it could be time to explore a new option.
This week’s tip is from “Hospital vs. medical staff legal counsel: What type of coach do you need for your legal team?” in the October issue of Credentialing & Peer Review Legal Insider (subscription required).
