As the official representative of the hospital, the CEO is actively involved in the credentialing and privileging process. He or she is a member of the MEC and attends or sits on the governing board. The CEO is the responsible party for notifying applicants of the board’s final decision regarding the granting of membership and clinical privileges. He or she is also usually the key contact in the event of mediation or a hearing and appeal.
