Hospitalist salary data released
Hospitalist Leadership Connection, July 6, 2010
The mean hospitalist salary is $225,344, according to the data from the SHM-MGMA 2010 annual report. For hospitalists who care for adults, the median compensation is $215,000. These figures include all salary and benefits, including base or fixed component, productivity component, and quality bonus.
The survey acts as a benchmark, but there are limits in overgeneralizations, according to an article by John Nelson, MD, SFHM, in the July issue of The Hospitalist. Because the data is self-reported from participating medical organizations, the data might not be entirely accurate, according to the article. In addition, the data do not indicate what the “right” benchmarks are, but instead, they are a guideline for optimal compensation, according to the article.
