Establish an awards program

If changing your program's schedule or creating a sick call rotation will cause more problems than solutions at this time, try starting an awards program, suggests McKean. She suggests setting targets in areas such as quality improvement, teaching, research, and clinical service and establishing a nomination process. Your program can host formal awards ceremonies, or simply acknowledge the winners in a hospital newsletter or other hospitalwide communication.

"There are steps you can take that are inexpensive and that encourage people to want to succeed in your organization, and that is recognition," McKean says.
