Hospitalist recruitment and retention trends: Put a twist on traditional compensation packages to entice candidates and keep them

The hospitalist shortage has hospitalist program managers and medical directors everywhere wondering just how many hoops they have to jump through to bring a new physician on board. If you've unsuccessfully tried offering traditional financial recruitment incentives, such as hefty base salaries, loan forgiveness, and housing assistance, give these strategies a shot:

Create a cash cow. You may have thought that you were meeting a candidate's needs by offering six months of housing assistance, but perhaps the candidate has 20 prize cattle that need to be relocated.
