Moving to a fourth generation hospitalist program: Go electronic
Hospitalist Leadership Connection, December 15, 2009
What should you look for in electronic charge capture software? When moving toward a fourth-generation hospitalist program, your program should consider software that is Internet based and can:
- Track patients
- Populate fields with automatic demographic download
- Access hospital utilization data for comparison purposes
- Assist with billing processes
“If you’re still on a pen-and-paper charge program, we need to move you off that,” said Martin Buser, MPH, FACHE, cofounder of Hospitalist Management Resources, LLC, at the Greeley Medical Staff Institute Symposium last month in Naples, FL. “It might seem like an insignificant issue, but if you can’t keep up with paperwork via fax, it’s a big issue,” he said.
