Whether the funds come from the medical staff, hospital administration, or both, one of the best ways to engage physicians in medical staff leadership training is to pay for it. Portneuf’s administration matches medical staff dues, which are collected every two years, and that money is deposited into an education and travel account. The medical staff taps into that account whenever a physician leader attends a seminar or conference, and it covers registration, air fare, and hotel, Sorensen explains.
The medical staff also advances physicians the money they need to attend educational events (the equivalent of $100 a day) or ensures that they are reimbursed quickly if the physicians pay up front for miscellaneous expenses.
