MSP neutrality: Maintain diplomacy during medical staff-administrative conflicts

If medical staff members or administrators are knocking on your door looking to share a long list of complaints, take some time to listen. “A lot of times, people just want to be heard. Once they blow off steam, they seem to be a lot better,” says Richard Baker, CPMSM, CPCS, director of medical staff services at Gulf Coast Medical Center in Panama City, FL.
Anne Roberts, CPCS, CPMSM, director of medical affairs at Children’s Medical Center in Dallas agrees. “Physicians are just like the rest of our peers and co-workers, they’re going to have bad days and they may occasionally vent about it!” The trick is knowing the difference between venting and the expression of legitimate issues that need to be addressed.
