Between stroke, seizure disorders, drug reactions, Parkinson’s disease, and other complications that affect the brain, there is always a need for neurological consultations for hospitalized patients. That’s why more hospitals are choosing to establish neurohospitalist programs. According to “Is it time for neurohospitalists?” a study that appeared in the March 12, 2008 issue of Neurology, the exact number of neurohospitalists is unknown given the variations in terminology used to describe the position. However, given the booming number of medical and pediatric hospitalists, it’s probably safe to say that neurohospitalists will follow the same trend.
