Today, medical directors typically oversee a department, unit, or service line at a non-hospital-owned or hospital-owned multispecialty practice group, but the details of their jobs remain hazy.
This may explain the vast pay discrepancies between medical directors across the country depending on specialty, region, and type of healthcare facility, according to a recent study conducted by the Medical Group Management Association (MGMA), Medical Directorship and On-Call Compensation Survey: 2009 Report Based on 2008 Data.
