Case managers assigned to hospitalists may find that their jobs have become a little easier. Unlike physicians in independent practices who only spend a portion of their day practicing in the hospital, hospitalists are always on scene to discuss patient care. “They are so readily available,” says Lisa Flamm, director of care management at Middle Tennessee Medical Center (MTMC) in Murfreesboro.However, just because hospitalists are accessible doesn’t mean the relationship between hospitalists and case managers is perfect. Often, system issues prevent both parties from communicating effectively.
