Audio: Recruiting and J-1 visa candidates
Hospitalist Leadership Connection, February 17, 2009
Although some hospitals might hesitate before accepting foreign-born J-1 visa candidates, hospitals shouldn't dismiss the pool of potential candidates, especially in challenging recruiting times.
Kirk Mathews, CEO, principal, and founder of Inpatient Management Inc., in St. Louis, talks about why small community rural hospitals should consider J-1 visa candidates in an interview with HCPro, Inc.
The most important thing is to find "someone that is a proactive communicator," said Mathews.
"A well-trained American-born physician who speaks the language perfectly but is generally withdrawn and not a good communicator can make just as poor of a hospitalist as a physician who struggles with the English language," he said.
