Hospitals doing more to manage doctors’ industry ties

When the healthcare community hears that a physician is working with a device manufacturer on an artificial joint replacement or with a drug manufacturer to find a better way to treat depression, one word usually comes to mind: kickback. Regulators and consumers fear physicians with industry ties will prescribe drugs or recommend devices to patients—regardless of whether those products are appropriate—to put a few extra dollars in their pockets.
