A physician yells at a nurse and throws a chart on the floor. The outburst causes a stir, but in all the gossip and worry, that physician’s underlying problems may go unaddressed. What if that physician struggles with bipolar disorder and his or her medications are out of whack? What if he or she is so burned out that leaving medicine altogether seems like a more attractive option than learning stress management skills?
