Joint Commission offers patients free pain management brochure
Hospitalist Leadership Connection, September 23, 2008
The Joint Commission (formerly known as JACHO) released a free brochure that physicians can give to patients as a resource for pain management. Called “Speak Up: What You Should Know about Pain Management,” the brochure includes common questions patients should ask about their medication and language they can use to describe their symptoms.
The Speak Up initiative is a national campaign, launched by the Joint Commission and the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services in 2002, to promote active patient participation in their own healthcare to help reduce medical errors, avoid medication mistakes, and increase understanding of their rights as patients.
There are no reprinting permissions required to use this brochure, according to the Joint Commission Web site. Download the PDF brochure here.
