Editor’s note: In the July MSB, we discussed how Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville is measuring and improving physician communication skills. This month, we take a look at how the University of Pennsylvania Health System (UPHS) in Philadelphia is assessing professionalism.
The Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education/Joint Commission’s six core competencies are:
1. Patient care
2. Medical knowledge
3. Practice-based learning and improvement
4. Interpersonal communication skills
5. Professionalism
6. Systems-based practice
