Six steps to launching a hospitalist-run clinic business plan
Hospitalist Leadership Connection, July 1, 2008
One unique patient care model is the hospitalist-run clinic, a model that requires the support of hospitalists and surgical physicians, as well as hospital administration. To get the entire team onboard, consider the following steps for organizing and presenting a business plan:
- Define the clinic’s services and mission statement. Design a flow chart for proposed clinical processes.
- Asses how other internal and external components, such as other medical staff and lab technicians, will affect the clinic.
- Perform a financial assessment, considering projected patient volume, labor and non-labor expenses, overhead costs, and start-up expenses.
- Clearly outline your objectives and action plan.
- Outline your evaluation criteria.
- Prepare an executive summary.
The above is an excerpt from The Hospitalist Program Management Guide, Second Edition, written by Kenneth G. Simone, DO and Jeffrey R. Dichter, MD, FACP.
