Hospitalist work lures the young
Hospitalist Leadership Connection, May 6, 2008
According to an April 29 article in The Wall Street Journal, “As Doctors Get a Life, Strains Show,” recent medical school graduates are electing to pursue healthcare careers with steady hours that allow for a personal life outside of work. From 1996 to 2003, the number of graduates who chose “controllable” medical fields doubled, according to a 2005 study from the journal Academic Medicine. Instead of seeking traditionally popular specialties in internal medicine, pediatrics, or family medicine, younger doctors are alternatively seeking hospitalist work, as well as dermatology.
