AZ hospital posting ED wait times on Web site
Hospitalist Leadership Connection, April 22, 2008
Scottsdale Healthcare is now posting ED wait times for its three hospitals on its home page, www.shc.org. The times represent how long patients would wait to be placed in an exam room after checking in and are updated every 10 minutes.
“Wait times can vary, but we wanted to give our community an honest look at what actual times they can expect at our hospitals,” says Nancy Hicks-Arsenault, director of emergency services, in a Scottsdale Healthcare press release. “Some hospitals may advertise a ‘door-to-doc’ time guarantee, but that can be a very difficult guarantee to live up to.”
Although Scottsdale Healthcare’s ED door-to-discharge wait times are below Arizona’s and national averages at about three hours, Hicks-Arsenault says there is always room for improvement.
