St. Louis hospital will no longer directly employ ER physicians
Hospitalist Leadership Connection, February 6, 2008
In an effort to increase patient flow, the leadership at St. Anthony's Medical Center in St. Louis, MO, is moving away from its current system of contracting directly with ER doctors and paying these physicians on an hourly basis, reports The St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
According to the article, many hospitals around the country have already done away with paying ER doctors on an hourly basis and instead opted to work with a third party that contracts with physicians and allocates them when necessary. Other hospitals contract with a physician-owned group to provide necessary staff.
