Hospitalist Leadership Connection, December 26, 2007

A study examining the outcome of care provided to hospitalized patients by various physician specialties shows that patients cared for by hospitalists experience short stays, according to a University of California San Francisco press release.

The press released states that the lengths-of-stay (LOS) for patients cared for by hospitalists were approximately 12% shorter than the LOS of patients treated by general internists or family physicians. However, researchers found that treatment costs, mortality rates, and readmission rates were fairly similar across specialties.
