AMA supports industry shift on physician performance measurement

Hospitalist Leadership Connection, December 19, 2007

The American Medical Association (AMA) released a statement this week favoring improved initiatives to measure and compare physician performance data.

AMA spokesperson Nancy Nielsen, MD, calls the changes a "radical shift" to profile physicians not simply on cost and economics, but also quality of patient care.

The statement was in response to recent changes in New York State regarding health insurers and methods for measuring physician performance in the areas of quality, accuracy, transparency, and oversight. To view the AMA's complete statement, click here.
