WOCN position statement on pressure ulcer staging
Contemporary Long-Term Care Weekly, November 8, 2007
The Wound, Ostomy and Continence Nurses (WOCN) Society has published a new position statement on pressure ulcer staging. It states that the Society recognizes the importance of staging in the management of acute and chronic pressure ulcers and supports universally recognized terminology in such staging.
Of the systems that have been developed over the years, the WOCN recommends the National Pressure Ulcer Advisory Panel (NPUAP) February 2007 revised definitions of pressure ulcers and stages of pressure ulcers. These revisions are the result of five years of work by the NPUAP, which began with the identification of deep tissue injury in 2001.
The complete text of the statement can be found at the WOCN Society's Web site at www.wocn.org.
