Nursing home rates show slight rise last year

The average cost for private nursing home rooms increased nationally by three percent in the last year, to $213 per day ($77,745 annually), according to a new study released by MetLife Mature Market Institute.

 

The study found that semi-private rooms increased three percent as well, to $189 per day. Nursing home costs were highest in Alaska at $510 daily and lowest in Baton Rouge, LA, at $123.

 

Costs for specialty care also rose nationwide. The average cost for Alzheimer's care was $4,270 monthly, and dementia care costs increased 11 percent last year, to $1,110 monthly, according to the survey.
