Thirty civil lawsuits await acquitted nursing home owners

After a three-week trial, Mabel and Sal Manganos owners of the Lousiana nursing home where 35 patients died, were acquitted of the negligent homicide charges, reported the Washington Post. The couple is now facing more than 30 civil lawsuits filed by victims' families. Jurors found the Manganos not guilty of 35 counts of negligent homicide and 24 counts of cruelty to the infirm. The couple was facing life in prison for not evacuating their patients Hurricane Katrina in 2005, according to the newspaper.
