Study shows Medicaid underfunds long-term care
Contemporary Long-Term Care Weekly, October 4, 2007
A recent study found that Medicaid is underfunding long-term care by $4.4 billion annually, according to an American Health Care Association (AHCA) press release. The study, A Report on Shortfalls in Medicaid Funding for Nursing Home Care, was conducted by BDO Seidman, LLP, and Eljay, LLC. It found that, on a national level, Medicaid was underfunding nursing homes an average of $13.15 per resident per day. This is an increase of 45% from 1999 to 2007. The report shows that the government is not providing enough funding to reimbursement for SNFs to cover the cost of care, according to the AHCA press release.
