This week's tip: Restorative dining program

LTC Nursing Assistant Trainer, September 27, 2007

The restorative dining program is used for residents who eat independently but need a high degree of assistance or supervision. The restorative nurse develops the dining program. Therapists function as consultants, if necessary, to meet individual resident needs. The nurse evaluates the dining room and meal service for the following:

  • Atmosphere
  • Assistance needed by residents
  • Assistance given to residents
  • Seating arrangements
  • Table height
  • Food acceptance
  • Resident need for positioning aids
  • Resident need for adaptive devices
