CMS releases revised accidents and supervision F-tag
Contemporary Long-Term Care Weekly, July 12, 2007
CMS issued revised guidance to its accidents and supervision F-tags (#323 and #324) last week, combining the two tags into one, F-tag #323. The new guidance will take effect on August 6, and is based on two key principles that every facility must ensure: the resident environment is as free of accident hazards as possible, and each resident receives adequate supervision and assistive devices to prevent accidents.
In addition to providing accident definitions for surveyors, CMS' guidance covers particular supervision situations, from physical plant hazards to smoking care plans. CMS will post a final copy of the new guidance to its Web site on August 6, and it will appear in Appendix PP of the State Operations Manual. F-tag #324 will also be discontinued after that date.
