A new top cat for CMS
Contemporary Long-Term Care Weekly, May 10, 2007
President Bush last week picked the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' (HHS) deputy chief of staff to take over the top job at CMS. Kerry Weems has served HHS for 24 years, including as an advisor for HHS secretaries and a budget and organizational manager, reported the Austin American Statesman. The next step is for Weems to be confirmed by the Senate, and if all goes well, Weems will take over for interim administrator Leslie Norwalk, who opted out of consideration for the job. Norwalk has headed CMS since the previous administrator, Mark McClellan, stepped down in October 2006, according to a CMS press release.
