Military nursing home under criminal investigation

Contemporary Long-Term Care Weekly, April 5, 2007

Arizona's state nursing home for military veterans has been fined more than $5,000 and is currently under criminal investigation, according to Phoenix-based WLUC-6 TV. A February inspection of the facility determined some residents were left for long periods of time in soiled clothes, and others had gone without necessary care for extended stretches. Another resident's cigarettes had burned her clothes, WLUC reported, and still other residents alleged that staff members ignored them when they called for help. The state home provides care to about 200 residents, most of them veterans of World War II or the Korean War.
