More short-term residents equals more money for SNFs

Contemporary Long-Term Care Weekly, March 29, 2007

In order to compete with hospitals and rehabilitation facilities for short-term, higher paying residents, nursing homes need to reinvent themselves, according the Associated Press (AP). By focusing on younger, short-term patients and offering postoperative rehabilitation services at lower costs than competitors, nursing homes will gain business from a different demographic resulting in additional income. Nursing homes can provide the same services as a rehabilitation hospital, but for almost half the cost, reported the AP.
