Delinquent doctors still receive Medicare payments

Findings from the Government Accountability Office suggest that thousands of doctors and other health professionals participating in Medicare owe the government more than $1.3 billion in federal income and payroll taxes, reported The New York Times. These same individuals continue to collect Medicare money because the government has not checked their backgrounds. There is currently no way for Medicare to prevent doctors from receiving payments even if they don't pay their taxes, reported The Times.
