Association rejects MedPAC’s recommendation

Contemporary Long-Term Care Weekly, March 8, 2007

The American Health Care Association (AHCA) is urging Congress to reject the Medicare Payment Advisory Committee's (MedPAC) recommendation of no annual inflation update for skilled nursing providers, according to an AHCA press release. In a letter to the House Ways and Means Health Subcommittee, AHCA said the recent gains to ensuring quality nursing home care are threatened with MedPAC's failure to recognize the increase in financial dependence between Medicare and Medicaid. AHCA is recommending that Congress maintain the full market basket for 2008 and reject MedPAC's recommendations for skilled nursing providers. The association also recommends that all government payers be taken into account when making recommendations and that MedPAC should factor in the progress made in long-term care quality improvements.
