Providing residents with choices is an important part of a caregiver's job. However, it often takes the back seat to other priorities such as busy schedules and rushed visits. Always remind staff that it is their duty to allow residents to make decisions regarding their own care and life. Staff should encourage residents to have a say in areas such as the following:
- Clothing
- Bath or shower time
- Food
- Bedtime
- Daily schedule
- Activities
