Gulf coast states receive $175 million in funding
Contemporary Long-Term Care Weekly, January 25, 2007
Skilled nursing facilities (SNF) in the gulf coast region will receive a portion of the $175 million grant the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is distributing to help alleviate the economic pressures felt since Hurricane Katrina, according to a HHS press release. CMS will allocate $71.6 million to facilities in Louisiana, $60.5 million to Mississippi, and $27.8 million to Alabama. The money will be distributed between SNFs, hospitals, and other healthcare providers within the three states. Since Hurricane Katrina, SNFs are having difficulty retaining and hiring staff due to the shortage of funds, according to the press release.
