Contemporary Long-Term Care Weekly, January 10, 2007

On January 9, CMS announced it will eliminate the Medicare Part D 2007 late enrollment fee for low income beneficiaries, according to a CMS press release. The fee was originally in place to encourage beneficiaries to join during the initial enrollment period and not wait until later in the year. The decision to waive the fee enables all low - income beneficiaries to be a part of the program, said CMS Acting Administrator Leslie Norwalk. Eligible low income Medicare beneficiaries have until December 31, 2007, to enroll in the program, penalty free, according to the CMS release.
