New deadline for some Part D beneficiaries

Contemporary Long-Term Care Weekly, January 3, 2007

Some Medicare Part D beneficiaries received an extension to the December 31 Medicare Part D enrollment cutoff date this year, according to a CMS press release. Less than 1 million beneficiaries did not receive information regarding coverage benefits and cost changes from their insurance companies CMS learned, so it granted those people until February 15 to make a decision regarding their 2007 coverage. CMS is requesting that insurers send a list of beneficiaries who did not receive the required documents before November 15. CMS officials said they will send a letter to the affected beneficiaries letting them know of the deadline extension.
