CMS updates unnecessary drugs F-Tag
Contemporary Long-Term Care Weekly, December 27, 2006
On December 18, CMS made more revisions to F-Tag #329, Unnecessary Drugs, requiring increased involvement from consultant pharmacists. These changes require nursing homes to provide detailed documentation on why a resident should or should not be tapered off a medication. Under F-Tag #329, CMS added requirements for physicians to document the clinical rationale of why attempting a dose reduction on a resident would be contraindicated. CMS also deleted the duration information about cholinesterase inhibitors in the medication table under cognitive enhancers. Click here to see all of the changes.
