New York City nursing homes not ready for an emergency

Contemporary Long-Term Care Weekly, December 20, 2006

A report released on December 17 found that New York City nursing homes are not prepared to evacuate in case of an emergency, according to www.ny1.com. Part of the blame falls on the state health department because of a lack of sufficient evacuation plans, said the Manhattan Borough president. According to the study, the health department hasn't reviewed its current evacuation plans and doesn't have any standards to follow when creating a plan. Forty nursing homes in five boroughs took part in the study, reported the Web site.
