Grant awarded to increase nursing workforce
Contemporary Long-Term Care Weekly, December 13, 2006
In an effort to bring more students to the nursing profession, a $1.9 million grant was awarded to a Northeast Mississippi consortium, reported the Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal. Nursing homes, hospitals, nursing schools, state agencies, and economic development agencies are all part of the consortium. The goal is for Northeast Mississippi to gain 3,500 nursing professionals by 2012. One program works to get students through school and help nurses in the field return for their master's degree. In the long haul, the group hopes to gain retention amongst nursing professionals, reported the Daily Journal.
