Medicare Part D under budget

Contemporary Long-Term Care Weekly, December 6, 2006

In a surprising turn of events, Medicare Part D finished the year $13 billion under budget, reported The Houston Chronicle. The program came in at $30 billion, 30% below the anticipated $43 billion budget. President Bush and CMS said that competition among private insurance companies, lower than expected enrollment rates, and drug prices not rising as high as expected contributed to the savings, according to The Chronicle.
