Increase in wheelchair reimbursement rate cuts
Contemporary Long-Term Care Weekly, November 15, 2006
After many power wheelchair and scooter suppliers complained about CMS' reimbursement rate cuts, they will now get a small break with the agency's decision to change the proposed cuts, reported The Houston Chronicle. Critics of the rate cuts feel CMS' increase, effective November 15, will still hurt suppliers causing many to go out of business. Some types of wheelchair rates will increase by hundreds of dollars, while one of the more common devices will see a $300 reimbursement rate increase. CMS originally proposed the cuts because of the increase in government spending on power wheelchairs in the past 10 years and the fear of fraud, according to the newspaper.
