Quality Indicator Survey process in the wings
Contemporary Long-Term Care Weekly, November 1, 2006
CMS is implementing the Quality Indicator Survey process, which includes an online off-site review of a facility's records before surveyors arrive. During a presentation at the American Health Care Association annual conference, CMS' presentation said the new process will improve consistency in what surveyors pinpoint and possibly cite. The process will also allow surveyors to review the full range of regulations and it will give CMS the leeway to focus more time and energy on problematic facilities. The process, which rolls out between 2007 and 2008, uses a computer system that flags areas of concern and allows surveyors to track and follow up on deficiencies, the presentation said.
